Principal Letter - Reopening Update
Posted 6/25/20

Dear PHE Families,

I hope your summer has gotten off to a great start!  I know the last several months have been challenging for everyone as we have adjusted to the changes that have occurred as a result of the school closure. Now that the 2019-20 year has ended, many of you have begun to reach out to me wondering what the start of school will look like next year.

I wanted to provide you with an update on the preparations our district has been making to reopen our facilities and resume in-classroom instruction. School is still scheduled to resume on 8/13/2020, although MDUSD is still working out the details of our reopening plan.  Our district has convened three advisory groups that have been working over the past couple of weeks to help provide broad input as our reopening plan takes shape.  Please click HERE to view a recording of the reopening plan that was presented to the board on 6/22/20.

It’s not too late to provide input into our reopening plan.  If you haven’t already done so, please take a moment to complete the Family Survey for Fall Reopening by clicking on the link in this letter or on our district website.  Continue to stay up-to-date on this evolving plan by checking the Roadmap to Reopening page on our district website.

A preliminary plan will be shared with the community on 6/30/20 with another opportunity for community feedback.  Whatever the final details of our district plan, please be assured that our goal at PHE is to maximize student learning and safety (both emotional and physical) during the 2020-21 school year.  Our teachers will be working on a learning plan and will be prepared to deliver robust instruction whether learning from school or from home.  We will be maintaining our unique school enrichment programs such as:  STEAM Lab, Garden Lab, and Reading Lab. We will adhere to public health guidelines as we consider adjustments in areas such as:  scheduling, social distancing, health checks/symptom screening, and cleaning protocols.

Please keep an eye out for an email you will be receiving asking you to participate in “MDUSD HomeLink”.  This is an online resource that will allow you to update your student’s demographic information, such as phone and address, online.  Completing this in advance will help us streamline our “All in One Day” process.  Follow the directions to sign up for HomeLink and stay tuned for “All in One Day” information in early August.  At All in One Day you will receive your students’ teacher assignment and receive important information about our school such as volunteer opportunities, spirit wear, PTA, etc.

Thank you, PHE community for all the feedback and communication during this time. I am always grateful for your insight and support.  The staff of PHE and I are looking forward to seeing you all again very soon.

-Aurelia Buscemi, PHE Principal
